Roots to Rivers: Environmental Justice, Design & Infrastructure: Who Builds, Who Decides?
This session will explore how environmental conditions in our neighborhoods are shaped by past and present decisions about land, infrastructure, and development. Together we’ll reflect on how communities experience these systems today and consider how residents can play a role in shaping more just environmental futures. The conversation will be led by Dr. Nida Rehman, Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, whose work examines urban nature, environmental justice, and the ways communities engage with landscapes to create possibilities for change.
This event will serve as Session 1 for the Roots to Rivers Cohort, and offers limited space for members of the public. Roots to Rivers is a community-driven leadership program offered by UpstreamPgh and Neighborhood Allies for residents of East Hills, Homewood, and Wilkinsburg who want to understand how their neighborhoods were shaped—and how they can lead the changes needed now.
Dinner will be available upon arrival, followed by introductions, a presentation, and group discussion. If you have dietary restrictions, please let us know using the comments section in the form below.
