Signs of Spring Walk
For a precious few weeks (or days) of the year, certain wildflowers emerge throughout our forests. Spring ephemerals are plants with short lifespans that pop up in early spring then quickly go dormant once the trees leaf out. Learn about these wildflowers and other harbingers of warmer weather in our Signs of Spring hike in Frick Park!
Expert ecologists from Civil & Environmental Consultants will teach us how to identify these wildflowers and other signs of spring – plus connect with efforts to restore native plants in the park.
We’ll also take a look at our recent collaborative installation with CEC, of over 1,250 native live tree stakes! Over the years, these trees and shrubs will help to nurture habitat for even more spring ephemerals in the Fern Hollow valley.
This will be a roughly two mile hike at a slow pace, but there are some steeper hills in parts. We’ll meet at the Frick Environmental Center at 2005 Beechwood Blvd, near the gate entrance. There is free parking at this site and it is accessible via the 61A and 61B bus route near the Forbes Ave at Dallas Ave stop.
This event is free but donations are appreciated and help us hold events like this. Registration is required so we can plan efficiently for the event!
