Our environment directly impacts the health and safety of our communities. Even in our seven square mile watershed, there are stark differences in prosperity, opportunity, health and safety for residents only a few blocks from each other.

For us, equity means not only reducing hazards like flooding, air pollution and poor water quality, but also ensuring environmental benefits are shared fairly. We achieve this by advocating for policy change, working in coalition, and expanding access to nature, as well as promoting and maintaining the co-benefits of stormwater runoff reduction from improved landscapes and tree canopy to the creation of more resilient, connected communities.

Environmental Justice Table

The Environmental Justice Table (EJT) is a community-driven initiative, established by UpstreamPgh in 2023. The EJT aims to address environmental injustice in marginalized communities across Allegheny County.

The core of this work includes supporting Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and Aborigine Americans of the land by advocating for their access to healthy environments – including clean air and water.

EJT’s work is focused on co-developing community-driven campaigns that shape environmental justice policy, grow community capacity, and build community resilience. Their current projects focus on:

Establishing Water Equity & Accountability with Mon Valley Water Companies

Deconstruction Campaign
