Connecting people with nature is at the heart of our work. Through school partnerships, guided hikes, and community outreach, we look for ways to connect people of all ages with the natural world.
Youth Education
We collaborate with schools and youth organizations to connect children with Nine Mile Run and the nature found in our neighborhood.
Events
We host nature walks, talks, and other events for people of all ages to learn about climate justice and our local ecosystem.
Outreach
We look for ways to support community groups in the neighborhoods we serve and build relationships with residents to better understand their stormwater issues.
Volunteers
Volunteers help us serve the community and sustain thriving urban landscapes. Whether pulling weeds, picking up trash, hosting school field trips, or tabling at events, we work year-round in diverse ways and conditions.
“We loved our field trip with UpstreamPgh! My students and I were studying forests and the UpstreamPgh team kicked off our unit with an exploration in Frick Park. It piqued my students’ interests about the topic, as they were able to interact with the material in a hands-on way, collecting fallen leaves, exploring seeds and learning about squirrels from experts who shared in a way that my students could understand and that they enjoyed!”
