Phipps Youth Climate Action Committee Wetland Workday
We are teaming up for the second year with Phipps Conservatory’s Youth Climate Advocacy Committee to restore native aquatic filtration plants to the Nine Mile Run wetlands! This committee has selected plants like bulrushes, juncus, and cattails that can help purify water by uptaking heavy metals, introducing oxygen, and reducing the effects of contamination in the water. These plants also provide important habitats for life in and out of the water and balance the food chain.
Join us in this effort to protect our wetlands!
This workday is open to the general public, and volunteers of all ages are welcome. We recommend you wear rain boots or waterproof shoes, or shoes that you do not mind getting muddy, and long pants to protect your legs. We’ll have a few pairs of extra rain boots available. We’ll meet in the parking lot near the Lower Frick Park Play Area (soccer fields) and then head over to the wetlands near the Nine Mile Run Trail.
