Green Stormwater Infrastructure Maintenance
Over the years, our team has developed technical expertise designing, installing and maintaining GSI. With significant efforts being undertaken throughout the region to construct more stormwater infrastructure to meet federal requirements for clean water, we are able to provide the experience needed to keep these facilities functioning at their highest capacity. The role that each GSI facility plays in managing stormwater is sizable, which is why maintenance is so critical to nature-based infrastructure to keep the plants and trees alive and functioning.
In partnership with Landforce, UpstreamPgh was awarded a contract to maintain all of the GSI in the City of Pittsburgh right-of-way. In 2019, this totaled seven projects, two of which our team designed and built: the PWSA Aspinwall Water Treatment Plant rain garden and the Oakwood-Batavia GSI site.
UpstreamPgh also holds a three-year contract with the Borough of Forest Hills to maintain the GSI on the site of their new municipal complex, which was built to meet green building standards, including sustainable stormwater management.
In addition to the structural and environmental benefits of these maintenance contracts, we are proud that this work creates a network of jobs around this green industry. Through our partnership with Landforce, we were able to train several groups of participants who are establishing work history for the first time.
